KUALA LUMPUR, October 25<\/b> \u2013 The Youth and Sports
\nMinistry (KBS) has launched a new initiative, the Dengar Rakan Muda Project<\/b>,
\naimed at providing accessible and confidential emotional and social support to
\nMalaysian youth. The project officially begins on November 1 <\/b>and the Team
\nfrom HELP University will be at the Square, Publika every 1st
\nSaturday of the month from Nov 2025 to Jan 2026. <\/p>\n
This initiative is a critical step in addressing the growing
\nmental health challenges faced by young Malaysians, offering them a dedicated,
\nstigma-free environment to share their concerns and be heard.<\/p>\n
A Safe, Judgment-Free Space<\/b><\/p>\n
As a leading institution dedicated to producing well-rounded
\ngraduates, HELP University is a key knowledge partner, leveraging its expertise
\nin psychology, counselling, and youth development to support the project’s
\nlong-term sustainability and impact. <\/p>\n
The Dengar Rakan Muda Project falls under the Ministry’s
\nRakan Prihatin lifestyle initiatives and was launched in conjunction with World
\nMental Health Day 2025.<\/p>\n
Youth and Sports Minister YB Hannah Yeoh emphasized the
\nimportance of community-based support for mental well-being. “Mental
\nhealth is no longer a fringe issue. It has become one of the biggest social
\nchallenges facing Malaysian youths,” she said at the launch ceremony at Publika
\nShopping Gallery.<\/p>\n
The core goal of the project is straightforward: to create a
\nsafe space where young people “can come to share and be heard without
\njudgment, stigma, or prejudice, and where all interactions are kept
\nconfidential.”<\/p>\n
Why a Shopping Mall? Making Help Accessible<\/b><\/p>\n
To make the support as approachable as possible, the first
\nvenue for the project is located in a high-traffic, youth-friendly location: Publika
\nShopping Gallery<\/b>.<\/p>\n
YB Hannah Yeoh explained that placing the project outside of
\na typical medical setting was a deliberate choice to encourage participation.
\n“If this programme were held at a hospital, they might feel shy or afraid
\nto come. That’s why we’re holding it at a shopping mall, which is more
\nyouth-friendly and easily accessible location,” she noted.<\/p>\n
This strategic choice aims to lower the barrier for youths
\nseeking support, making it feel less like a clinical intervention and more like
\na normal part of community life.<\/p>\n
Key Objectives and Future Plans<\/b><\/p>\n
The Dengar Rakan Muda Project has several important
\nobjectives:<\/p>\n
Provide
\n a platform<\/b> for immediate mental and emotional health support.Raise
\n awareness<\/b> that mental health is equally as important as physical
\n health.Reduce
\n stigma<\/b> and encourage youths to feel more confident in seeking
\n professional help.Empower<\/b>
\n young people to become agents of change in their own communities.<\/p>\n
The project is a collaborative effort implemented through
\nthe National Youth and Sports Department (JBSN)<\/b>, in partnership with UEM
\nSunrise Berhad<\/b> (which provided the venue), HELP University<\/b>, and The
\nBefrienders Kuala Lumpur<\/b> who will deploy trained volunteers to ensure
\nquality and empathetic support.<\/p>\n
KBS has ambitious plans to expand the project. Minister YB
\nHannah Yeoh confirmed that the Ministry will strive to roll out the initiative
\nnationwide through JBSN, ensuring that a safe platform to interact and seek
